KBS has recognized its Artisan Hill Apartments construction team with the both the Excellence in Quality and Excellence in Safety awards for the second quarter of 2018. This is the second consecutive quarter that the team has received the safety award. Only one other team has qualified for consecutive awards since the program began in 2012.
The team is made up of Liz Blanks, project assistant; Brich Keifer, project engineer; Christopher Bryant, project manager and Darren Campbell and Michael Greer, superintendents.
“The Artisan Hill team has shown they are deserving of the two consecutive safety awards. The proactive measures they are taking, perfection in safety documentation submittals and obvious safety expectation communications and follow through have earned them the repeat recognition,” said Mark Lambert, corporate safety director.
The Artisan Hill team has also been proactive in identifying potential quality issues. Richmond had the wettest May on record, receiving more than 10.25 inches of rain. With insulation and drywall ramping up, the team raised concerns about possible excess moisture in the building. A third-party inspector reviewed the building for excess moisture to helped identify any problem areas. Overall the inspection went well and provided additional confidence in moving forward.
“The mock-up that was completed for this project is the largest wall mock-up that I’ve seen,” said Matt Kamstra, corporate quality director. “It includes a window, door, balcony, roof section, columns and all façade types on the project. This mock-up exercise was instrumental in performing first installation meetings and getting a final approval from both the architect and VHDA before proceeding with these details on the building.”
Artisan Hill is a 228,600-square-foot apartment development with a 75-foot lap pool, athletic field, bicycle
repair shop, parking garages, art studios and a rooftop sky lounge with incredible views of Richmond’s skyline. The project is designed by Poole & Poole Architecture.
