For the second quarter of 2019, KBS recognized two project teams for excelling in quality and safety.
The Virginia War Memorial Expansion team was given the Excellence in Safety award. The team includes: Adam Britt, project manager; Chris Garabedian, carpenter; Tina Hudson, project assistant; Carter Neal, assistant superintendent; Merredith McMahon, assistant project manager; and Tony Zimmer, superintendent.
“The project team has been successful at running a near flawless project, evident by weekly visits from the KBS safety department and the immediate correction of any safety-related notations made,” said Mark Lambert, corporate safety director.
This Virginia War Memorial Expansion adds 26,500 square feet of educational facilities, administrative
office space, a lecture hall, a second shrine and a parking deck. The new shrine, on the memorial’s eastern side, honors veterans from the Global War on Terror. The 61,000-square-foot parking deck adds 172 spaces.
The Grace and Lombardy project team was given the Excellence in Quality award. The team includes: Steve Bovell, carpenter; Mike Greer, assistant superintendent; Matthew Maggy, project engineer; Will Paulette, project manager; Scott Stallard, superintendent; and Faith Williams, project assistant.
“The Grace & Lombardy Team has done an excellent job of maintaining high standards of quality on their project,” said Matt Kamstra, corporate quality director. “Through laser focus on upcoming details and potential issues to follow up QC inspections to verify that everything is going according to plan, this team is doing a great job!”
On a former parking lot at West Grace and North Lombardy streets near Stuart Circle, Grace and Lombardy is a five-story building consisting of 106 apartment units. The first level of parking is a half-story below grade, and the other level will be slightly above grade with 106 residential spaces plus about 40 spaces will be set aside for use by St. John’s United Church of Christ. Of the 106 apartments, approximately most are one-bedroom units around 800 square feet, while the remainder are two-bedroom units around 1,200 square feet.
